Think how you’d feel if you’d been doing something all your life and you thought it was universal behavior only to discover that that not only is it not universal behavior, but engaging in this behavior makes you kind of crazy. You’d be somewhat incredulous, right? I mean, how is that possible?
Well, I am all kinds of incredulous, people, because okay. I like oatmeal. A lot, actually. Mmm oatmeal. And you know what goes well with oatmeal? Toast. I like oatmeal and toast. And I like dry toast because, um, I put the oatmeal on the toast? I do. I put the oatmeal on the toast. Not like all of the oatmeal, but you know, I’ll eat a few bites of oatmeal, and then I’ll pick up a piece of toast and put maybe a spoonful of oatmeal on the toast and eat it, and then I’ll repeat the process until I’m done. It’s a delicious nutritious breakfast. Shut up. It is.
I had it pointed out to me last night that this was not normal. So I asked Caryn about it this morning and she also said it was weird. WHAT? I DON’T UNDERSTAND.
So, here is my question. Please answer:
Oatmeal on toast? Is that bizarre? Seriously, have you never thought of doing this, not even once? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? Ahem.
Okay, maybe that turned into several questions. What I mean is, quite simply, oatmeal on toast: yes or no?
Thank you.

I’m starting a list of completely “normal” things I’ve never considered doing. I suspect I’ll get most of my ideas here.

Well, I regularly eat oats scramble up w/ eggs, so I can’t really say anything here can I?
Never heard of anyone eating oatmeal on toast before this. But hey, whatever works for ya, right?

I don’t do it, but I don’t think it’s weird. Because I am generally in favor of making one good thing better by dipping it into another good thing.

I dont think that’s too weird. I put my eggs over medium on toast. I mean, I know a lot of people do that; but what I’m saying is what’s the difference between one breakfast food on toast over another?

Not weird at all. I put spaghetti on top of my garlic bread. In fact, I think the next time I eat oatmeal I’m going to do this. For real.

Ehm, no, sorry. But actually I eat neither oatmeal nor toast. Can’t combine them that way, can I?
My sister used to eat everything with ketchup. And I mean everything, including things that really don’t go with ketchup. But what I considered weird wasn’t her choices (putting ketchup to cream-sauce, hello?). I wondered what’s the point in eating various food, while it all tasted ketchup-the-taste-killer.
I can’t think of anything ‘weird’ I eat. Possibly because I consider it just normal.

Yep. Weird.
But you know I’ll probably try it now just to check.

I like toast. I like oatmeal. I’ve never tried oatmeal on toast or toast in oatmeal, but then oatmeal is basically just wet oat bread (sans a few ingredients), isn’t it?.

I have to say that is a DELICIOUS breakfast. I do the same thing. It is really yummy. Well I like butter on my toast. But oatmeal on toast is YUMMY

I don’t think it’s so crazy. I’ve never done it myself — at least partially because I don’t eat oatmeal.
Also I’ve never seen or heard of or imagined another person ever doing that in the history of ever.

It has never in my life occurred to me to do that. That said, sounds good!

I think my mom does that. But I hesitate to call her normal, so…

Oatmeal on plain toast… ABSOLUTELY YES!! Maybe it’s a southern thing that you picked up? I’m in Texas & my whole family eats it that way (well, some use butter, but same thing). I think you are very normal!

Unusual? Not really when you consider the myriad of strange food combinations out there that people will cop to enjoying. I like shredded carrots on my peanut butter sandwiches. I didn’t think that was weird until my dad clued me in (my dad eats fried potatoes on bread, by the way.)

i think your comment system hates me. that’s ok, i can handle it.
nonetheless, i *must* weigh in. because this regards “crazy” and “food” and i feel particularly able to speak in that area.
that being said, i don’t think this is that crazy. never tried it, but i’m sure it’s all kinds of delicious.
unless it’s sweet oatmeal. sweet oatmeal horrifies me. i only eat it with salt and pepper. or other savory seasonings.
