oh ted nugent, you veritable well of charm, you
it was a pretty normal morning, really. i got up, i did some pilates, i ate some cream of wheat (it’s wheatalicious!) and i read a transcript of ted nugent being interviewed by jesse ventura.
all pretty par for the course, you understand.
now, on the off chance that you are unfamiliar with ted nugent, he is a musician (ahem) who is also a very vocal gun-totin’ crazy.* he’s also responsible for brilliant pieces of american rock ‘n’ roll, such as “cat scratch fever” and “wang dang sweet poontang”. and let’s not forget that band damn yankees. i tell ya, america is proud. it told me so.
anyway, this interview is charming for a great many reasons, but i have to say this bit here might be the pinnacle of greatness:
NUGENT: Well, Im really-Im proud of being different, Jesse, you know. I like to think that defiance is really a major, major thrust of the American dream. Rosa Parks has always been my biggest hero. I like a person who spits in the face, figuratively speaking, in-of stupid policy, and refuses to accept ignorant and soulless ideas and policy. Ive always fashioned my rock n roll cravings after Rosa Parks. I defy stupid ideas and stupid trends. Everybody tries to put drugs, alcohol, tobacco into my body. Im going just to have to knock them down.
ok, just for the record, now:

this is ted nugent, gun-totin’ crazy.

this is rosa parks, american icon of strength in the face of adversity.
so, i want to get this straight. lyrics such as “You see it’s a crazed gyration of the rock generation/ It’s my motivation to avoid the nauseation, frustration/ When I need some lubrication - Baby!”** are ted nugent’s homage to rosa parks, the woman who spat in the face of southern jim crow laws, and is a legendary figure in the american civil rights movement?
wow, i bet she’s flattered.
*for the record, i am not anti gun, i am anti gun-totin’ crazy. there’s a difference.
**from “wango tango”
