obligatory thankfulness
Here at Jamelah World HeadquartersTM, I do a disproportionate amount of complaining about how everything is wrong and I am disappointed and filled with angst. And while that is part of my charm and all, I figure that for at least as long as it takes me to write the following portion of this post, I should focus on the things that I am thankful for. Because we all have little blessings in our lives that keep things at least bearable and sometimes downright wonderful. (And Thanksgiving is on Thursday, and I am nothing if not a harbinger of holiday cheer.) So here goes:
The Thankful List, 2004 (idea not really stolen from Que Sera Sera, since I thought of doing this before I read her blog today):
- My job, mostly
- My friend Stacy, and that we’re hanging out tomorrow
- The story my friend Missy told me about this truck she saw, because it’s still funny
- Roundnose pliers
- Elliott Smith albums
- The wind-up lederhosen
- That the book is done
- The kids I work with, and all the great memories that they’ve given me, especially the pumpking (with a jeri curl)
- Saturdays off
- The way my grandma has recently gotten into the habit of rambling and rambling and rambling on the phone and then suddenly, almost in mid-sentence, saying “Okay, bye.”
- My new(ish) boots, even though I will never wear them on days when I have to spend nine hours on my feet ever again
- Tumor Treatment Tuesdays (I get to leave work early!)
- “I just want to boil the food poisoning out of it.”
- The memory of lightning, thunder and snow one early morning in Atlanta
- Sunflower seeds
- The insane jubilant frenzy all because of a phone call, proof that I’m still not so grown up
- That it didn’t work out
- iTunes
- My mother
- The 24 Hour Poetry Party, and all hilarity experienced as a result
- That I only have 6 presentations left
- I’m Promise Fellow!
- For those of us left who still believe that democracy isn’t a faith-based initiative (and I say this as a faith-based person)
- For the precious little sleep I get
I’m sure there’s more, but the last item on the list reminded me that I’m tired, so let me wish you the happiest Thanksgiving you can possibly have, and say goodnight.
Goodnight.
