Maybe Blogs Should Have Auto-Save

Published by guest at 8:17 am under Everything

This guest post brought to you by WordPress, procrastination, and the letter N.

It’s a shame, really. I had this amazing post all written out about how I’d planned to write something substantive but then my car died and embarrassed the hell out of me and then I had to get a new car and didn’t have time to write something fantastic but then the post I did end up writing actually was fantastic and then the internet ate it. Um. The End?

But seriously. When will I learn to SAVE MY WORK? The day my entire blog gets mysteriously swallowed whole, never to be seen again? The day after? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve written something I thought was truly spectacular, only to erase it forever with one stupid keystroke. I have over 400 entries on my blog and guess how many I have backed up in one form or another? That’s right. Zero.

It’s not just blogging. I do stupid things all the time and as if that’s not bad enough, I often acknowledge (sometimes out loud) just how stupid my actions are. Like, the potholders are RIGHT THERE. It’ll take one extra second out of your life to grab them and HOW LONG to clean up the kitchen if this spills? I never listen to myself, though. It’s like I’m relying on the patron saint of morons to see me through.

There is no patron saint of morons, though. I just checked because I was curious and that’s what the internet is for — well, that, porn and viral videos. There is, however, a patron saint of holy fools but I think that’s something totally different. And now I’ve rambled long enough (and failed to save my brilliance, I’m sure) so Jamelah can post this puppy and rue the day she ever invited me to guest blog. The End. (For real this time.)

blogger has autosave. and i love it.
the applications to real life, though, are a day-long mantra. “this will take one extra second, this will take one extra second.”
sigh. if we haven’t learned by now…
